Dr. Gopal Ranjan obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering in 1959, Masters in 1965 and Ph.D. in 1970. He joined teaching at the University of Roorkee (Presently known as IIT, Roorkee) and rose to the position of a professor in 1975. An educator, researcher, consultant and administrator, Prof. Ranjan has actively participated in several national and international activities in his field of specialization- Geotechnical Engineering. He has guided18 Ph.D. and more than 35 Masters thesis. His research papers numbering more than one hundred and seventy have been published in several referred National and International journals and conference proceedings. He is the author of four books widely used by engineering students. He is an active consultant and has rendered technical advice on more than 300 projects. He retired in June 1998 after putting in about four decades of service at the University of Roorkee (Presently known as IIT, Roorkee) he has held several assignments including that of Vice Chancellor. In recognition to the excellence provided by Prof. Gopal Ranjan in the field of Geotechnical Engineering and research, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee and the Institution of Engineers (India) Roorkee Local Centre felicitated him. After retirement from University of Roorkee, Prof. Gopal Ranjan joined a group leading industrialists of Haridwar in September 1998 with a vision to start a self financed private Institution- College of Engineering, Roorkee (COER). He dedicatedly worked for the establishment, growth and development of the institute. COER made a mark in the technical world in terms of one of the best institutes in the country. He left COER in April 2014 and joined another top leading upcoming institute at Roorkee – Roorkee College of Engineering, (RCE) as Director General in May 2014 to take the Institute to higher and higher heights. In recognition to his academics, research and administration abilities, he has been nominated in various technical committees of leading universities e.q. UPTU, DTU etc. and Chairman of various committees of Department of Science & Technology, e.g. Landslides, National Geotechnical Facility etc. Roorkee College of Engineering (RCE), committed for developing technical competence and excellence in the youth, is located at Roorkee-Hardwar canal road at a distance of five kilometers from the Roorkee town. College campus, although not far away from the city, is surrounded with lush green fields and trees, creating a natural cozy atmosphere for studies and living.
